MX OPC UA Server - Quick Start Guide [OPCUA]

This document describes connecting MX OPC UA server with Mitsubishi PLC. Basic MX OPC UA configuration tool functions are presented

Install MX OPC UA server. Then open MX OPC UA Server> The icon should be displayed on the taskbar. After that, open MX OPC Configuration Tool

Certificate Generation

When you open MX OPC UA Server Configuration Tool for the first time, you are asked to create a server certificate

If you want to create a new certificate when it is already done, you need to delete file configtool.der from the path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MELSOFT\MX OPC Server UA\PKI\CA\certs
If you open Configurator again, Create Certificate Windows will display again

Connection to the server
Go to File - open server

If MX OPC UA is running on your local computer:

You can also monitor the status of the server from View - Diagnostic

Device Configuration

Right - click on Address Space and select New MX Device

Click Configure (1), select the interface of connection from PC side (2) and conenction destination (3)
In this example we are connected  to build - in ethernet port of FX5U

In the next window of teh wizard you can enter IP address manually or scan teh network (Find CPU on network)
Confirm with OK

Select the CPU series and type

Troubleshooting
If you cannot connect, check ethernet connectio, IP setting and Melsoft connection

Melsoft connection is used to ceonnect MX OPC UA to PLC, but also to connect GXW3 on your PC to PLC
If more than one connection needs to be established, you need to add it in ethernet configuration of ethernet port
Open your project in GXW3 and follow these steps:

From Module list - Ethernet Device (General) Drag and Drop MELSOFT Connection Module

Try to connect from MX OPC UA, connection should be succesful now

When the connection is established, you can set the device properties - basic properties related to communication and advanced (time-outs, back up device)
For now advanced settings will be left default in this example
Confirm with Save

Monitoring tags

In the next part we will add the tags to be monitored to our device (FX5 PLC)

1. Create Tag

Right - click the device name
You can add Tag, or Add tag group first (which is a folder of variables)

In Basic tab,  name the tag and define, which PLC variable it will we connected to (1), set polling method (2)
Polling method definition described in 2. Polling Method

In Advanced tab:
enable/ disable tag - decide if it is active or not
Use the conversion - definition of conversion presented in 4. Conversion
Simulate device - if you do not have connection to real tag, you can simulate the signal (it won't be read from PLC, but generated with the system)

In Alarm Tag - define alarming for tag. Alarm definition is described in 3. Setting the alarms

Multiplying - more stan one Tag will be created

2. Polling Method

it is the time interval, at which server gets the new value from source
Phase is used to shift samples from different sources in time (relatine to each other )

Sample of phase settings:

3. Setting the alarms

Limit alarm - when measured vaule reaches the alarm level, alarm is generated
Sample:

You can see the infromaction about alarm occurence in monitoring.
It will be also send to OPC client

4. Conversion

used when you want to scale the incoming value
